This event is mainly aimed at landowners whose broadleaf plantations are at or near the first thinning stage. Some very good news for the Irish timber and forestry industry with the announcement that an exciting new national forestry event is being planned for May this year. The Irish Forestry, Woodland & Bio Energy Show is to be held in the central location of Birr Castle Estate on a versatile mixed woodland site on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th of May.
A new COFORD Connects paper outlines that Irish forests under the Kyoto regime are expected to remove 11 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere between now and 2012, thereby reducing the impact of climate change and saving the taxpayer over €220m in carbon purchases.
Builders providers are reporting that this year's sales for sawn wood and processed boards, such as MDF and OSB, are back from between 20% to 30% when compared to last year. Most sawmills in the country, particularly the larger ones, are on a 'short working week' and also on short time in some cases.
